Quick Fact:
Arctic sea ice has declined to the lowest levels on record and studies suggest that two-thirds of the world’s polar bear population will be gone by 2050. What’s more is that almost all of the 300 large glaciers worldwide are shrinking, according to a study published in the October 2006 issue of Geophysical Research Letters. That means that sea levels could rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 to 59 centimeters) by century’s end.
