Nominate him for the Kohl’s Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program, now in its tenth year, which awards scholarships and prizes to volunteers ages 6-18. Children ages 6 and younger are invited to bounce from 10am-12pm, and families may attend at night from 5-7pm on 3/17. Wear green for a discount. Self-Defense Session, Long Island Aikikai, 10 Fourth Ave., Bay Shore, (877)AIKIKAI. This short but intensive Spring Women’s Seminar emphasizes attack neutralization by a lighter defender, using a low center of gravity. Aikido uses leverage and circular movements to redirect an attack. Held 3/20, 1-4pm.

2010 Strictly Students Film Festival, www.strictlystudentsfest.com. The festival seeks original short film from Long Island high school students. Individual prizes will be awarded as well as equipment for schools. Additionally, college students may compete in their own category. Start your filming now, as entries must be postmarked by 3/22. Treats for Troops, Girl Scouts of Nassau County, (516)741-2550, www.gsnc.org. Help to satisfy the tummies of overseas troops by purchasing a box or case of cookies to be shipped to U.S. Army members from a local Girl Scout. Last year, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County sent 35,000 boxes to military personnel. Help them surpass this mark by making your purchase before the end of cookie season on 3/28.

Tune In, Green Up, Planet Green, Wa$ted, www.onceuponasundae.com. Keep your eyes peeled for Once Upon A Sundae on this small screen this spring as the party venue is featured on Planet Green’s Wa$ted. Planet Green, a division of Discovery Company, had producers visit Once Upon A Sundae at 2943 Long Beach Road in Oceanside and discuss with staff how to run a more ecologically friendly business.
