The CSTI Middle School Summer Theater Program
is designed for kids who are passionate about
the performing arts. This summer’s five-week
intensive “Summer Stock” theater program
introduces middle school students (grades 5-8)
to modern comedy with the hilarious, Pulitzer
Prize-winning American classic, Harvey, by Mary
Chase. Every student is cast in a performing role
while getting training in all aspects of production—
set construction, costume building and lighting.
Director of the program is Judd Lear Silverman,
award-winning playwright and middle school theater
teacher at The Calhoun School. Students also take
classes with veteran theater and dance artists
Hal Shane (Manhattan Rhythm Kings) and Lynn Marlowe.
The rehearsal process culminates in a full-scale
production, held in The Calhoun School’s
Steinberg Theater. Enrollment is limited to only
16 students. The program runs Monday-Friday, 9am-3:30pm,
June 19-July 23 (no classes on July 3 or 4). For
application, tuition and further information,
go to Calhoun’s Web site, www.calhoun.org,
and look under “After School.” Or
call David Alpert, executive director, at the
number listed above.
