Way Off Broadway enters its 18th year of unique
theater training for kids Pre-K through 12th
grades, and it’s time for you to see what
they’re all about! New York City theater
artists Frank Schiro and Wendy Taucher are the
artistic directors, and they have combined classic
skill-building with creative risk-taking. Way
Off Broadway students take classes in acting,
singing and movement; they participate in the
creation of plays, songs and choreography that
they later perform. Enrollment is now open for
ongoing classes in Acting with Theater Skills
and Musical Comedy, as well as for a fall middle
school and high school Scene Study course and
a winter Audition/Monologue course. Based in
Long Island, Way Off Broadway has locations
in Dix Hills/Huntington, Garden City, Manhasset
and Merrick. Classes meet once a week, with
a family day in December and end-of-year performances
in May. Each season, Way Off Broadway offers
several free one-day workshops where students
get to explore stage combat, dialects, and acting
for the screen. Sound Studio Day is one of the
more popular workshops because students get
to make funny fake commercials in a professional
New York recording studio.
